Christmas Cards 2013

For Christmas 2013 I made a dozen cards to send out to my family.

DSCF4305DSCF4307

The images were stamped on Strathmore Mixed Media 400 series paper using Ranger Archival Ink. On most of the cards I used Tim Holtz Distress markers and a water brush. On various cards Stickles were used for enhancement. DCWV Christmas Stack Combo 2010 was used for the 6 X 6 card base and mat layers. WRMK Scallop corner punch was used for shaping the card. The glitter papers used are from Best Creation Inc. Diecuts are Spellbinders Label Four.

The Merry Christmas sentiment that is on some of the cards is from the Tim Holtz Stamper Anonymous Christmas Memories.

Birthday Cards

Between November 11th and December 9th there are five birthdays in my family. I managed to get the five cards made and mailed or given to the recipients. This was not an easy fete to accomplish, Because I had been away at a four day crop the first weekend in November, went on a 10 day vacation that included a 7 day Caribbean cruise. Came home in time to celebrate Thanksgiving with two daughters, two grandsons and a sister. Then proceeded to get a sinus and upper respiratory infection.
So I am not going to give the detail I usually put into this blog. I just had to get these four cards posted before too much time had gone by.

Two of the birthdays( my youngest sister and my son-in-law) were on November 11th. I made a Z card for my sister and wrote a previous blog all about it.

This 5 1/2 X 4 1/4 card for my son-in-law is one I had partially made while making another card in March. I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder to emboss the front, then I sanded it to help the embossing stand out more. Gave it a little more detail with faux white stitching. The inside was finished by adding a mat, a band and a quote.

My youngest daughter /child celebrated her 40th birthday on Thanksgiving Day by running in a five mile race. It was freezing cold that day in Connecticut, but it was a lot of fun watching the race, because the participants dressed in costumes.
Her 6 X 6 card was made using DCWV Butterfly Garden stack and AC Cardstock for the base. The sentiment on the inside is a Recollections acrylic stamp.

Another sister celebrated her birthday on December 9th. Green is her favorite color. I had a lot of fun making her 6 X 6 card. All the papers used were in my stash.
I used a Rubbernecker stamp and Ranger Adirondack Espresso Ink. I hot glued two of the flowers (Fiskars flower punch) together after shaping them, then hot glued them onto the stamped image. Added Imaginisce I Rock pearls to the centers of the flowers and gem to jeweled strand. Stickles were used on the earrings, necklace and the strand.
The lacy border on the outside as well as the inside are Martha Stewart Vintage Doily punch.
The sentiment on the front is a Sylvia Yu rubber stamp. The sentiment on the inside is a Fiskars acrylic stamp. It was shaped and matted using two different sizes of Spellbinders Labels 18 dies.

Birthday Card for My Youngest Sister

My youngest sister was born on Veteran’s Day when I was six years old. And she made us a family of four sisters. Like me she loves to travel and she will be retiring at the end of this month.

I made a 5 3/4 inches X 5 1/4 inches “Z” card for the first time. I learned how to do this by watching the YouTube video made by Linda Duke. The card is 5 1/2 inches at the highest end and 3 1/4 inches at the lowest end (pink Bazzill Basic).

DCWV Ciao Bella paper used

The bouquet of flowers on the front of the card were fussy cut(DCWV Ciao Bella stack). The edges were inked with Fired Brick Ranger Distress Ink and Distress Marker. I used Rangers Claudine Hellmuth Studio multi medium matte on the delicate parts ie. leaves to give them enduring stability. It was adhered to the front of the card( Recollections Foam Squares).

Back of the card

The ribbon( Studio 18) was attached to the card before the Vellum was adhered.
Light green vellum(Emagination Crafts) was embossed with the Cuttlebug Birthday folder using an eBosser.
The doily lace trim( Martha Stewart Vintage Doily Punch) was made from white cardstock(Georgia Pacific).

Inside of the “Z”

The butterfly( Inkadinkado) and Happy Birthday( Recollections) were stamped with Rangers Archival Jet Black Ink. The happy birthday is stamped on the card under the light green vellum.
Flowers (Fiskars punch) were made from the papers and vellum scraps. Two flowers were adhered together with Scotch Quick Dry. Ice White pearl( Viva Pen) added to the centers. Then they were adhered to the card with hot glue.

Floral Anniversary Card

What to do with all the small pieces of scrap paper in my stash? Well, I bought a Fiskars flower punch and made a large quantity of flowers while watching TV.
DSCF3519

Some of the flowers were used to make an anniversary card for my daughter Donna and her husband Edwin’s 22nd wedding anniversary.

DSCF3463
The 4 X 6 card is made from green cardstock I had in my stash. I embossed vellum (Emagination Crafts) with the Anna Griffin Rosa embossing folder using the Sizzix Big Shot. The flower petals were given a lifted character by rubbing the center of the each flower with the rounded ball of an embossing stylus. Then I adhered two flowers together using Scotch Quick Dry adhesive for each blossom.

50th Birthday Card

My nephew celebrated his 50th birthday at the beginning of September. As usual I made a card for him. The card is 6 X 6 with four layers on the front.

DSCF3414
The papers are from DCWV. The gold glitter paper is from my stash, so I'm not sure who is the manufacturer. I embossed the black denim with a Cuttlebug birthday folder, then I sanded it with a Tim Holtz sander.
The fonts used are from Cricut cartridges Birthday Cakes and Elegant Cakes for the 50th and Birthday Cakes for the sentiment on the inside of the card.

Machines used Cricut Expression, Gypsy and Sizzix Big Shot. ATG and Zig 2 Way adhesives were used.

Boy Fishing Birthday Card

Another grandson celebrated his birthday this Monday. It is his eleventh.  He has many interests especially science. For pleasure he likes swimming and fishing.

DSCF3327
The 6 X 6 card is a denim print from the DCWV Blue Jean stack. Using the Martha Stewart scoreboard I made double score lines all around the borders then sanded them so they would have a distressed look.

From the Cricut A Child’s Year cartridge using the Gypsy and the Cricut Expression I cut the boy fishing(4.17 inches) and sentiment(3.04 inches), as well as their shadows at 4.24 inches and 3.12 inches respectively. They were all cut from paper in my scrap stash.

DSCF3291
DSCF3314

To give the card a little pop of color I used strips of paper also from my scrap stash.

DSCF3297
The envelope was made with paper from me & my Big idea airmail stack using the Martha Stewart scoreboard.

DSCF3317
The fishing boy was adhered with popups behind the boy and the fishing hole. The fishing pole and fishing line, as well as everything else are adhered with Zig 2 Way. ATG was used for adhesion of the envelope.

28th Anniversary Card for my Oldest Daughter and Her Husband

My oldest daughter and her husband will be celebrating their 28th anniversary this weekend. Purple is her favorite color, so the colors for the bridal party were lilac for the women and grey for the men. So it is time to make them a card.

I made this shaped card with the Cricut Expression using the Cricut Sweetheart cartridge. I am also using the card for this week’s Fantabulous Cricut ChallengeWebsite challenge to make a shaped card.

DSCF3249
Using the Gypsy the hearts(5.46 inches X 4.62 inches each) were welded together.

DSCF3256
Folded heart card made from DCWV Mademoiselle Stack paper.

DSCF3250
The sentiment( 2.89 inches X 1.27 inches) was welded to overlay heart( 5.46 inches X 4.62 inches) at the “A” and “y” of Anniversary.

DSCF3252
The contrasting color of the sentiment was cut at the same size as the welded sentiment.

DSCF3258
DSCF3262
I was able to see how it would look all put together with the use of my newly acquired Scrap n’ Easel.
Because I didn’t want the white edging to show all edges were inked using the Gelly Roll purple pen.

DSCF3266
It needed some bling, so I embellished the overlay heart with Viva Pearl Pen Ice White pearls.

DSCF3264
That looks better, but it needed a bow, so I used some of Martha Stewart’s lace ribbon.

DSCF3271

DSCF3274
The inside of the card needed some decoration, so I fussy cut some flowers from the beautiful DCWV Mademoiselle Stack that was also used for the base of the card.

DSCF3280
Because the bottom of the heart card is pointed, the card can not stand open. So I made a base for the card by fussy cutting some of that same beautiful embossed paper, folded it and cut a slit in the fold so the card could be inserted. And I added a couple of paper braces to the inside of the stand for stability.

DSCF3284

The envelope was made from K & Company paper using the Martha Stewart Scoreboard. The inside of the stand is stamped with my signature stamp.

I used several adhesives: Zig 2 Way, ATG and GlueDot PopUp(to adhere the overlay heart to the card base).
