Christmas Card 2010

This is the Christmas card I made for this year to send to family and a few friends. Utilizing large white blank 6 1/2 X 5 cards (Halcraft) I had a lot of fun using many different techniques. I used Provocraft Gypsy, Baby Bug Cricut, Expression and Cuttlebug machines. The small ornamental figures used on the inside of the cards were actually cut last year using the Gypsy and Baby Bug. With all my travelling last year I didn't have time to make cards, so I decided to use them this year.

Musical Birthday Card

Today is my sister Carol's birthday. Her favorite color is green and she loves to write lyrics for songs. She has been writing lyrics since she was a teenager. Even though she has not had any success getting them set to music or published, this year at 60+ Carol decided to go to college for the first time to study music theory. I'm very happy and proud of her.

Using the Gypsy with George & Basic Shapes and Gypsy Wanderings cartridges, I designed an A6 card for her. The two layers, sentiment, musical notes and shadows were cut using the Cricut Expression . The envelope was made using the Martha Stewart Scoreboard. I have submitted this card to MyPink Stamper for her challenge this week.

This card on a card was designed using the Gypsy and cut using the Cricut v1(Baby Bug). The top card (3.74 X 2.965) came from the Cricut Don Juan Cartridge.

The dark green layer is Wausau Paper cardstock. The numbers 19 are from Cricut Elegant Cakes cartridge and they were welded together and to the sides of the oval in the card using Cricut George & Basic Shapes cartridge rectangles as anchors.

The light green layer is Coredinations Whitewash Cardstock. It was embossed using the Provocraft Cuttlebug and Divine Swirls embossing folder. It was lightly sanded using the Making Memories sanding block to reveal some of the green core. The corners were rounded using the We R Memory Keepers 1/4 corner punch. The oval leftover from the embossed layer was embossed using the Swiss Dots folder and sanded lightly, than it was glued to the darker layer to give contrast behind the numbers.

The under card( 5 1/2 X 4 1/4)  is The Paper Company Cardstock. The front edges were inked using Colorbox Fresh Green. The sentiment Technique Tuesday-Initially Yours The Little Words was stamped using Colorbox Fresh Green. The pink ribbon is from American Crafts Elements. The saying inside the card comes from Ultimate Card by Linda LaTourelle and the font used in Microsoft Works Word Processor is Lucida Handwriting.

The butterflies(1.43 X 0.76) were kiss cut using Cricut Picturesque cartridge and Cricut v1 from Coredinations cardstock used above. They were given some sparkle using Ranger Black Diamond and Icicle Stickles. They were glued to the card using popups( I don't know where they came from).

Teaching a Daughter to Use the Cricut Expression and the Gypsy

A couple of weeks ago my daughter Deborah came for a long weekend visit. When she saw all the scrapbooking equipment and supplies I own, she wanted to learn how to use them. First she wanted to decorate her new netbook with vinyl cutouts. I had never used vinyl myself, even though I had recently bought two colors and transfer tape. With the help of the Gypsy using Birthday Cakes, Animal  Kingdom and Printing 101 cartridges she was able to nicely decorate her netbook. I must say the use of vinyl is very easy.

After decorating the netbook she was all excited, giggly and still feeling very crafty, so I suggested she make a card for one of her nephews whose birthday was coming up. Once again she used the Cricut Expression and Gypsy, but she also added learning how to use the Cuttlebug with Swiss dots and Spots & Dots folders. With the  Gypsy using the Birthday Cakes and George & Basic Shapes Cartridge she learned how to flip one of the dinosaur pieces and how to weld a rectangle from George between the feet of the two pieces. She learned how to score the rectangle using the Martha Stewart Scoreboard. The grass with cattails used was from Paper Dolls for Everyday. The Happy Birthday with balloons and number 8 were from Birthday Cakes. Marcus was from Cuttin' Up. The cardstock used is AC Cardstock. The card is  5.7 wide and 4.32 high. A 6X6 envelope was made using the Martha Stewart scoreboard. Adhesives used were Zig 2-way and Glue Dots. White gel pen and Zig red pen were used for the mouth.
